I can't figure out Black Hawk Down.

It's an incredibly pretty, thrilling, beautifully scored work from one of our most gifted and poetic filmmakers.

But then there's that scene.

When Eric Bana's about to go back into the fight and Josh Hartnett's along for the ride.


"It's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is."

Real pretty, Hoot. Josh gets all jacked up and slings his gun and Eric Bana shakes his head. And the very next words out of his mouth after that sentiment, the very next words, are:

"Don't even think about it. I'm better on my own."

How does that make ANY sense? At all?

I am open to speculation.
