I almost hate to bring this up, because ANIMAYS, but the better directors of that medium have a healthy respect for the live action cinema that came before:
Studio GAINAX in particular was filled with fans of science fiction and this really shows in their work, thematically and with all the visual quoting. In fact when I saw Prometheus twice in theaters I was surprised how closely it veered to Shin Seiki Evangelion's view of an uncaring cosmos and mankind's origins and place there.
I guess that's what you get when both works call back to so much of what came before.
Another great one to add here: Please see Michael Mann's Lucky Star trailer/advert. The ad is great, and ALL the planets line up (maybe influenced by the May 2005 thing).
I love that the Prometheus shot is so much darker than the other two.
ReplyDeleteI just love Prometheus.
I could fill this goddamn site top to bottom with just Prometheus. Prometheus all day.

That's interesting, hit me with some screencaps!
