Mickey Mouse Club Badges (1936-1939)
Jurassic Park (1993)
dir. Steven Spielberg
Spielberg, the consummate Boy Scout, rather brilliantly made the logo for his family adventure-gone-wrong film a badge. Badges were popular as scouting and fan club giveaways in the 1950s and '60s, and these two Mickey Mouse Club examples are a template for the JP style.
The form and font of the logo, inherently commodified, suggest a safe Jungle Cruise-style simulated adventure that the park visitors expect. The brooding color scheme and looming presence of death, however, foreshadow what is actually to come.
